Metacognition Lab: The Metacognition Lab is directed by Dr.%20Lin%20Agler%2C and the research focus includes metacognition in reading and math, metacognitive aging, personality traits in learning and cognitive self-assessments, risk self-assessments and risk action, and gender stereotyping.  

Current Funding: 2022 Coastal Operations Faculty Development Award.  Project title: The Role of Scientific Reasoning, Cognitive Reflection, and Probabilistic Risk Estimation in Health-Related Action Assessments: Increasing Health Resilience in Our Coastal Community ($3,000).

Perception Action Cognition Lab:  Dr. Hajnal and the Perception Action Cognition Lab use virtual reality technology to examine the interplay of perception and action in everyday perceptual and motor skills. These skills are referred to as affordances, i.e. possibilities for action that are available to organisms involved in a variety of everyday actions such as walking, stepping, reaching, grasping, jumping, catching, to name a few. State-of-the-art motion tracking equipment is used to capture and record body movements to complement perceptual measurements

Recognition and Metacognition (RAM) Lab: The RAM lab is directed by Dr. Andrew%20Huebert and focuses on topics related to memory and cognition. We tend to focus on the cognitive processes that precede or occur in the absence of memory for specifics. This includes processes such as familiarity-based recognition, feature matching, feature significance, déjà vu, tip of the tongue, partial recollection, illusory recollection, illusory prediction, memory search, and curiosity. 

Mark Huff, 

Associate Professor, Training Director for Experimental Psychology Program     

The Memory, Attentional Control, & Aging Lab:  The Memory, Attentional Control, & Aging Lab is directed by Dr.%20Mark%20Huff. Research in this lab includes areas such as (1) false memory, especially in the context of eyewitness suggestibility paradigms, (2) distinctiveness encoding and the memorial benefits (and costs) that follow encoding tasks, (3) the role of individuals differences in attention and its relation to memory performance, and (4) the cognitive differences between older and younger adults, with the goal of mitigating age-related declines for older adults.

Current Funding: Aubrey Keith Lucas and Ella Ginn Lucas Endowment. Project Title: “Evaluating the Contributions of Encoding and Retrieval Processes in False Memory Reduction in Younger and Older Adults” ($4295).

Culture, Cognition, Values, and Well-being Lab: The Culture, Cognition, Values, and Well-being Lab is directed by Dr.%20Kenji%20Noguchi and focuses on various social psychological issues such as (1) cultural differences in social cognition and values, (2) psychological well-being especially on meaning in life, mindfulness, and coping styles, and (3) other social issues including political ideology, morality, and cognitive biases.

Evolutionary Social Psychology Lab: The Evolutionary Social Psychology Lab is directed by Dr. Donald Sacco and focuses on the following research domains: (1) how motivational systems shaped by natural and sexual selection influence perception, attitudes and behavior; (2) the relationship between personality and social perception; and (3) strategies for promoting ethically sound research practices.

Social Cognition and Behavior Lab: The Social Cognition and Behavior Lab is directed by Dr. Elena Stepanova and focuses on the following domains:  (1) social cognition, specifically (a) conceptualization of social categories and (b) effects of alcohol on social judgments; and (2) cross-cultural work, particularly explicit and implicit ethnic attitudes.
